DAY ONE – PORT MORESBY
On arrival in Port Moresby you will be met by our representatives and transferred to the Airways Hotel. Dinner at own arrangements.
DAY TWO - PORT MORESBY TO TARI
In the morning, you will be met by our representatives and transferred to your Air Niugini flight Port Moresby to Tari. The Tari Valley - home of the Huli, a colorful and proud people still largely living the same way that their ancestors did.
Nestled amongst the Doma Peaks near Tari, almost 7000 feet above sea level, is Ambua Lodge. An award-winning, eco-friendly lodge boasting magnificent views of the Tari Valley below. The Lodge has magnificent views of the valley below and surrounding peaks. The afternoon is spent exploring the area surrounding Ambua. High mountain forests with roaring waterfalls beckon the intrepid traveler.
DAY THREE AND FOUR
Enjoy two full days of cultural and ecological touring. The Tari area is home to an incredible 13 species of birds of paradise, as well as numerous orchid species. Learn how the Huli live and how they interact with and use their environment.
You will tour in comfortable Toyota Hiace and Coaster buses and are accompanied at all times by experienced and knowledgeable Huli guides from the local area, so as to make the experience all the more educational and rewarding.
DAY FIVE – TARI TO KARAWARI
Fly by charter aircraft to Karawari airstrip over some of the most rugged and impressive landscapes in the world. The country between Ambua and the Sepik region is an amazing array of jagged limestone that seem to rise and drop at impossible angles. From the airstrip, you will be transferred by river boat to Karawari Lodge. Sitting on a ridge above the Karawari River, Karawari Lodge boasts a spectacular view over hundreds of miles of dense tropical jungle. Inspired by local architecture and built with traditional materials, while still providing modern comforts.
DAY SIX – KARAWARI
Wake up to the chattering of Lorikeets and Eclectus Parrots. After breakfast enjoy touring programs that provide insight into the amazing ecology and culture of the Karawari area.
DAY SEVEN – KARAWARI TO MOUNT HAGEN
Fly by charter from Karawari to Mount Hagen, during the flight mountains rise up to startling heights out of the flat lands of the Sepik Basin. Mount Hagen Town is in the upper Wahgi Valley - a valley with some of the oldest evidence of agriculture in the world. Perched high on Mount Kuta is Rondon Ridge, with unbelievable views of the Wahgi Valley. Rondon Ridge is the pinnacle of luxury in a remote and rural setting.
DAY EIGHT – RONDON RIDGE
A full day is spent exploring the Hagen Area and Wahgi Valley. The Mount Hagen area is the home of the Melpa people, a people with a strong culture, who in the face of modernity, still live largely traditional subsistence lifestyles. In the mountains surrounding the Wahgi Valley lives a stunning array of bird, orchid and plant life.
Over 180 species of birds have been recorded in the rainforests around Rondon Ridge including ten species of Bird of Paradise. The surrounding area is pristine rainforest and home to numerous orchid species. The lodge has hours of walking trails providing ample opportunity to explore the unique ecology of this area.
DAY NINE – MT HAGEN TO PORT MORESBY
This morning you depart for Port Moresby on Air Niugini. Upon arrival in Port Moresby, you will be met by our representatives and transferred to your ongoing international flight.
