Itinerary

DAY ONE - WELCOME TO AUCKLAND!

AucklandWelcome to Auckland, the ‘City of Sails’. Auckland offers all of the things associated with a sophisticated cosmopolitan city, from beautiful scenery to adrenaline pumping adventure - and first-class food and wine.

You'll be transferred to your hotel. Located in downtown Auckland, Hotel DeBrett links two unique precincts - High Street's hip fashion and Shortland Street's tailored commerce. Hotel DeBrett's iconic building has been stylishly reinterpreted into a small boutique hotel.

DAY TWO - AUCKLAND AFTERNOON HIGHLIGHTS TOUR

Discover first-hand why Auckland is regarded as one of the best places in the world to live! This afternoon tour takes you around the central city, experiencing many of its best and most scenic sights. Journey over the Auckland Harbour Bridge for stunning views back to the city. Visit the Viaduct Harbour and Auckland's famous Queen Street before continuing on through the Auckland Domain. With its classic charm the Auckland Domain is the city's oldest and one of its largest parks, situated on a 62,000 year old volcano.

DAY THREE - AUCKLAND TO ROTORUA AND WAITOMO CAVES TOUR

Today you will travel south from Auckland through the rich farmland of the Waikato on to Waitomo. After your lunch stop (lunch own expense) begin your guided tour through the long galleries and lofty chambers of the Caves. Your tour continues with a boat ride through the Glowworm Grotto, illuminated by thousands of tiny lights from the glowworms suspended from the cave ceiling. After your visit reboard your coach and continue on to Rotorua.

Rotorua's striking gardens, cobbled streets and fascinating mix of Maori and English Tudor architecture give the city a significant point of difference. Beyond the urban centre, a backdrop of geothermal steam, volcanic mountains and huge crater lakes remind you that this region rests immediately above the Pacific Ring of Fire. Your hotel in Auckland iis the Novotel Rotorua Lakeside is located on the lakefront of picturesque Lake Rotorua.

DAY FOUR - DISCOVER ROTORUA AND MAORI CULTURAL EXPERIENCE AND HANGI FEAST

Today you will go on a half day morning tour of Rotorua's leading attractions with visits to Te Puia and the Maori Arts & Crafts Institute where you can view mighty geysers, boiling mud pools, and the traditional arts & culture of the Maori People. You’ll visit Rainbow Springs - a unique showcase of New Zealand's flora and fauna including New Zealand's national icon, the kiwi bird; and the Agrodome Sheep Show a hands-on experience giving you an animated insight into New Zealand's farming history.

No visit to Rotorua is complete without joining in a traditional Maori hangi feast. This evening tour takes you on a cultural journey to the marae (Maori village), the life force of New Zealand's indigenous people. You will experience the powhiri (welcome ceremony), hear traditional Maori instruments and watch the daily activities of days gone by. In the wharenui (meeting house), a Rangiatea culture group offers a powerful display of haka song and dance. Then, dine on a traditional hangi feast, where the food is cooked slowly beneath the ground in earth ovens.

DAY FIVE - ROTORUA TO QUEENSTOWN

You'll be transferred to Rotorua Airport for your flight to Queenstown.  (Flight not included.)

WELCOME TO QUEENSTOWN!

Queenstown is the Southern Hemisphere's premiere four season alpine and lake resort. Nestled on the shores of Lake Wakatipu and overlooked by the majestic Remarkables Range, Queenstown is the perfect destination all year round. You'll be transferred from Queenstown Airport to your hotel, the Novotel Queenstown Lakeside, located right on the waterfront of spectacular Lake Wakatipu, and just a step from the cosmopolitan center of Queenstown.

DAY SIX - MILFORD SOUND

Milford Sound is a world-renowned natural wonder where mountains stand tall, straight out of the sea. Luxuriant rainforest clings to sheer rock walls and waterfalls tumble hundreds of meters to the sea below. Whatever the fiord’s mood – brooding and wet, or tranquil in the sunshine – it will inspire you. On reaching Milford Sound board a luxury vessel for a cruise the full-length of Milford Sound. The vessel provides excellent viewing opportunities and plenty of time is available to enjoy waterfalls, rainforest, mountains and wildlife.

A great way to experience Milford Sound is to travel by coach one way and fly the other, or fly both ways. Flights are very much weather dependent – and the weather in this part of New Zealand is very changeable. Rather than pre-book flights into or out of Milford Sound, we recommend upgrading to a flight option when you are in Queenstown.

DAY SEVEN - TSS EARNSLAW CRUISE & WALTER PEAK FARM & BBQ LUNCH

Take a relaxing scenic cruise to Walter Peak High Country Farm on board the vintage steamship TSS Earnslaw. Relax on the lakeside terrace or inside the Colonel's Homestead and as the barbecue is freshly prepared and served. Fresh salads and crusty bread complement the food sizzling on the grill. There is ample time for you to see the farm animals and to join in the farmyard walking tour where a farm host will regale you with humorous anecdotes of rural life.

DAY EIGHT - COACH TOURING QUEENSTOWN TO CHRISTCHURCH via MT COOK

Mount CookDepart Queenstown and travel through the rugged and beautiful landscape of Otago. Cross the Lindis Pass into the Mackenzie Country to visit Mount Cook Village at the base of New Zealand's highest mountain, Aoraki / Mount Cook. Here there is time to experience an optional scenic helicopter or ski-plane flight with a snow landing (weather permitting). Continue your journey with a stop at the Church of the Good Shepherd on the shores of Lake Tekapo, before continuing to your destination of Christchurch.
