TranzAlpine Train Ride

The TranzAlpine scenic train journey travels between Christchurch and Greymouth, from one coast of New Zealand to the other. From your carriage you’ll see the beautiful fields of the Canterbury Plains and farmland, followed by the spectacular gorges and river valleys of the Waimakariri River. Your train then climbs into the Southern Alps before descending through lush beech rain forest to the West Coast town of Greymouth – a great base for visits to Punakaiki and the awe-inspiring glaciers. 

International Antarctic Centre

The Antarctic Centre includes a myriad of attractions including an aquarium that displays some of the actual specimens from the Antarctic Ocean floor in McMurdo Sound. You can explore the Gallery area – packed full of informative displays showcasing modern day Antarctica, Antarctic treaty partners, human impact on the continent, the wildlife and plant systems, and Antarctica's effect on the globe. The New Zealand Penguin Encounter is an indoor/outdoor penguin viewing area that holds up to 26 Little Blue penguins. With its centerpiece being a penguin life support area and 80,000 liter pool, the encounter allows visitors to view Little Blue penguins in a natural-themed environment.
